In an attempt to ease the high volume of traffic on the
redhat-list, two new lists have been created for use by the
Red-Hat-Usin'-Public. These are:
redhat-ppp-list@redhat.com
redhat-install-list@redhat.com
Setting up these lists should reduce the volume on the
redhat-list (which was very quick to drive some new users
away) and allow for a more specific medium to get important
questions answered. The installation of Linux is of the
utmost importance to the person who can't figure out why it
won't work. The setup of PPP is of the utmost importance
of the person who made it through the install and now needs
his box on the 'net so he/she can start having fun with it.
These two lists should help out immensely.
The redhat-ppp-list if for the discussion of topics that
relate strictly to PPP under Red Hat Linux. This includes
the setup of PPP, usage, changes, etc. We will likely post
information regularly to inform users where to find specific
documentation on PPP.
The redhat-install-list is for the discussion of installation
issues with Red Hat Linux. This covers anything related to
the actual *installation* only and shouldn't include post
installation configuration if at all possible. Valid examples
would be problems related to hardware detection, package
selection, and bugs *during the install*. We would like to
take this opportunity to encourage the "gurus" out there to
help folks out on this list as well.
Both of the above lists are platform independent, so feel free
to discuss issues related to the Intel, SPARC, and Alpha versions
of Red Hat. Folks may still reserve the right, however, to refer
questions to lists that are architecture specific (like the
sparc-list@redhat.com or the axp-list@redhat.com) if the issue at
hand is one affecting only one platform.
PLEASE NOTE: There is no crossposting allowed between these two
lists and the redhat-list@redhat.com. Right now there is no
mechanism preventing it, but any abuse will cause us to implement
one quickly. Please post to the list most appropriate for your
question. If you are in doubt, post *only* to the redhat-list.
To find information on subscribing to these lists, please see
our mailing list web page at:
http://www.redhat.com/mailing-lists
You will also find information there regarding the archives of
all our mailing lists, which are searchable via the web.
